Hi there,
This New Years, myself and my partner are planning a trip away for a few days. We are completely confused about where to go though. As this is a special occasion i want to splash out on a good hotel. I am hoping to spend up to €550 a night on a room. Paris was the obvious choice but for one of the "best" hotels we are talking €700 a night, plus we have been their twice already. We have been looking at the following cities - Venice, Florence, Rome, Madrid, Barcelona and possibly Monaco.
I would appreciate if i could get some recommendations on hotels. I have been looking at the most "renowned" hotels in each city but when i go to look at reviews on these hotels, they are always disappointing. I am looking for luxury, no cut corners... something really special with a prime location.
Also, as we are going in December it will be very cold in the cities mentioned, i am used to cold (from Dublin) but i am sure some of these cities are colder than others so it would be great if i could get some feedback on weather expectations and general atmosphere during December, i dont want it to be dead.
Thanks!!

Well I am not familiar with any hotels at your pricepoint - maybe people that have that much money to spend have very high expectations?! leading to bad reviews. But weatherwise, maybe Barcelona or Rome. You can check the weather averages on www.weatherbase.com. I would expect that there will be some good New Year's Eve celebrations in Barcelona and its such a neat city. Have a nice holiday
If you are looking for a place to go it would be Barcelona, it is a great city for couples just wanting to be together. Check out these two hotels, the Majestic has a wonderful room with balcony overlooking the city.
