Europe tour

Hello,

I am planning a 2 week tour to Munich (including Neuschwanstein Castle), Salzburg,Prague,Vienna & if possible Budapest. I would like to know how much time would be sufficient to cover each of these places. Also what would be the ideal scheduling. I am planning to fly to and from Vienna. How much time would be sufficient to cover Salzburg,Brechtesgadaner,Werfen& Untesberg.

Thanks.

2 weeks as in 14 days?

Does that time include your arrival in Munich and departure from Munich?

How are you traveling between cities?

How much time would be sufficient depends 100% on what you want to see/accomplish in each city.

The Eagle's Nest is basically a day trip if you also take the time to see the scenery and perhaps visit the salt mine or ice cave.

Hello, this time includes arrival & departure from Vienna. Would be travelling by train/bus between cities. What would be convenient ?? Basically want to cover as much as possible in each city. How much time would it take to Eagles nest & Lake Konigsee, can it be done in 1 day ? Is Budapest worth going or can I skip it since I am going to Prague ??

At least 4 days each in Vienna, Budapest and Prague; 2 days in Salzburg; 3 days in Munich (I don't know about the other places you mention).

Budapest and Prague are not similar so it would not be redundant to visit both.

If day 1 is arrival day and day 14 is departure day you only have 12 days. You need to allow for travel between locations which would be another 2 to 3 days.

You're trying to fit in 9 locations in 12 days. This is not possible if you want to visit sights.

If you have not yet purchased plane tickets, consider flying into one city and home from another which would cut out some unnecessary travel time.

Random comments/observations:

If Day 14 is your departure from Vienna back to your home, is your flight in the morning, afternoon, or evening? It might be that you actually only have 13 days instead of 14.

I don't know what is meant by "want to cover as much as possible in each city". That statement is too open ended to give any kind of useful reply. You need to place at least some kind of boundary.

If your arrival/departure is from Vienna, then I suggest starting out in Vienna, then moving on to Salzburg, then München, then Prague, and then Budapest.

You don't say where you are coming from but if you are arriving in the U.S., plan to spend at least 2 days in Vienna since Day 1 will be spent in a jet-lag haze.

I don't know why you would consider skipping Budapest just because you have seen Prague. It's like saying you don't need to see Paris because you've been to London. Budapest and Prague are similar only in that they both used to be behind the iron curtain.

Travel between Vienna to Salzburg and Salzburg to München is straightforward enough and you should plan on 2-3 hours for each of those for travel time. Your day trip to Königssee/eagle's Nest will be a long day if you're relying on public transit. München to Prague figure half a day (5-7 hours total travel time) travel if you take the express bus from Nürnberg to Prague. I can't really comment on travel time to Budapest or back to Vienna.

I presume you mean Königssee. Königsee is a town near Erfut in Thuringia. Depending on what exactly you want to do at Königssee, a day should be sufficient for it and the Eagle's Nest.

Didn't the OP mean the lake close to Berchtesgaden when asking "How much time would it take to Eagles nest & Lake Konigsee..."

I think you are not counting days correctly, not allowing time to get from one place to another and not giving yourself time to see much anyplace.

To make the most of your time fly into your first city - Vienna? and return from the last - Munich? It won;t cost any more.

IMHO to see much of anything you need to spend 3 full days (4 nights) each in Vienna, budapest and Prague, 2 full days (3 nights each) in salzburg and munich - plus transit time between them and extra days to see other sights. You really need a train schedule (bahn.de), a map and a calendar to figure out what you actually have time to see.

@Travelforbeer: I believe that is what OP meant but instead he gave the name of a town several hundred km away.
