Europe in Winter. Is it a good idea with kids ?
Hello,
Our kids are aged 10 and 8. Is it a good idea to visit Europe from October 26th till December 10th ? Or will it be bad weather everywhere ?
Are there any advantages of seeing Europe during this time compared to going in May/June next year ?
Can we see some places in Southern Europe where it will be not as cold ?
Thanks.

obviously the weather may vary a lot from north to south and between the end of October [which might still be quite warm in Spain, Greece and southern Italy] and December.
the advantages of travelling at that time of year are potentially fewer people and better prices. However, i have to say that were I doing a 6-7 week trip with kids of that age, I would definitely choose to travel in May/June, just because being able to be outside and do outdoor things with kids of that age is going to make for a much better trip.
were this an adult trip, my answer might be different, but I think that I would still come down on the side of May/June.

<<Is it a good idea to visit Europe from October 26th till December 10th>> Depends what you're doing - autumn can be lovely, crisp sunny mornings, golden foliage, the smell of the barricades burning
<<will it be bad weather everywhere ?>> No
<<Are there any advantages >> cheaper, quieter
<<Can we see some places in Southern Europe where it will be not as cold >> Everywhere in Southern Europe will not be as cold ..compared to where Hawaii, the Moon???
Sorry to be so blunt but your questions are really too ill defined for anyone to give meaningful replies. Once you've decided where to go and what to do (beaches, cities, countryside) then we can help with further questions.

I would prefer May/June with kids that age - so they can have a lot more outdoor time. Also - much longer days for everyone to enjoy
However your time frame is perfectly possible assuming:
You realize that this is NOT beach weather
You start in the north and head south so you get benefit of less chilly weather
You have correct clothing for the places you will go (lots of layer options and basic rain gear)
You have realistic expectations
You realize that the days will be getting rapidly shorter as you travel - esp in the northern parts

We took our kids to London, Scotland and France in the winter when they were 8 and 10 as well, and we loved it. We were there in early Feb for several weeks. For us, it worked really well, but it comes down to a personal preference and only you can decide that

If this were an autumn trip, I would start in the south so as to get he maximum benefit of whatever sun is left. a trip that went from Athens [possibly a few islands] then to Rome, and finally Paris and London would be pretty good.
you could also substitute Andalucia for Greece if you prefer. or Croatia, or Portugal...
