Europe in late January

I know this is a broad topic, but I am asking for a range of answers. My husband and I are looking to go away the 3rd week in January and are considering going to Europe. We live in the NYC area though and are not looking to go to another city and freeze there . SO...any thoughts on European cities that would be milder (above 55 degrees F) and easy to tour in January? ANY thoughts are much appreciated! We have been to Italy twice, so please options OTHER than Italy!

Thank you!

Cyprus (you can hear the bombs in Aleppo)
Canary islands is where many European go to escape the gloom. Also Cape Verde Islands or dare I say Morocco.

Even French Riviera is mild. Above 15c - too lazy to translate.

Malta.

Canary Islands are a good suggestion. I was there in a February and it was a mixture of sun and a few days of rain.

Only the very southern places listed above. Anyplace near or north of the Alps will can have a real winter. Also Madrid is on a high plateau and can be cold in winter.

In this order (from warmest to cooler):

1. Canary Islands.
2. Southern Morocco (Marrakesh).
3. Rhodes, Southwestern tip of Peloponnese (Pylos, Navarino, Koroni), Crete.
4. Andalusia.
5. Côte d'Azur.

All these places will be quite nice by end of January. Some of them are unbearably hot in summer.

Smartypants ! They think they're in Europe and try to join the EU. By the number of French designers who winter there, maybe they are.

Completely different thought and continent. How about some place like St. Miguel de Allende in Mexico?

Actually, we found even more attractive places in Morocco than Marrakesh (Fès, Meknes, Ait Ben Haddou - you know it from "Game of Thrones")- but Marrakesh belongs to the warmest places in Morocco.

Morocco is partly African, partly Arabic and partly European - especially French - a fascinating mixture. Even a simple meal may consist of Arabian-style appetizers, a tajine, a traditional Moroccan dish, followed by a French-style mousse au chocolat, and accompanied by a Maroccan wine which was made by an enologist who has been trained in Bordeaux (Volubilia is among the best Moroccan wines).

Yes, I recommend it. And it is dirt cheap.

Spent a week in Lisbon last January and it was very mild and a lovely area. But even better, although it's not Europe, Peru the previous January was great. A fabulous country to visit including Machu Pichu and it's in the same time zone as NYC which eliminates any jet lag issues. A really beautiful, fascinating country.
