Europe in February - Italy, Greece, or France??
Hello,
We are looking to visit Europe in February for a week or so. Browsing the forums on here, it looks like some of the more popular spots during this time are Paris/Nice, Monaco, Sicily/Southern Italy, and Greece (perhaps Athens?)
I just want to get some insight from anyone that has been to these places during colder times and see how your experience was. I know most people are saying to stay in the cities where there is more things to do inside, so if I had to pick one city to stay in, where would you suggest?
My husband and I are both love food, wine, and history (especially architecture and art) if that background helps narrow it down too.
Thank you - I know this is a really broad question, but I just want some input on what others have enjoyed most, especially during this February time frame.

You didn't mention Spain, but we were in Spain in February and it was in the low 70's.
Started in Madrid and it was in the mid 60's and then went south to Seville where it was in the low 70's. Mid 50's in the evening.
On a different trip, we were in Barcelona in late February and the temperatures were about the same.
Both areas cooled down at night.

Paris gets a real winter - not like southern Spain - so it might be too cold for you.
and I think you would be bored stiff in Monaco after 2 days - esp in the winter when many of the usual habitues will be skiing or in the carribbean.

I would pick Greece or the south of France (though not Monaco - which is another country of course - total overpriced bore IMO and deadly dull in winter unless you're casino fans and have boatloads of money). I'm not a fan of Spain, but it could work at that time of year. Paris will be cold. Italy works, depending on where - lovely cities to explore any time of year. The countryside, not so much.

Don't worry about the weather — it won't be particularly good wherever you are in Europe. Go somewhere that has the things you are interested in: "food, wine, and history (especially architecture and art)." Hmm...that sounds like Rome to me, or maybe Paris. ;-)

My first thought was Rome as well.
But I'll also give another vote to Spain. We were in Seville and surrounding area in Mid-January last year and it was very pleasant. We ate outdoors and took walking tours. Lovely city, by the way.

I much prefer to travel in winter. It's way less crowded and for me, walking miles every day, which we always do, is so much more comfortable in cooler weather.
I haven't been to Greece, but you absolutely cannot go wrong with Paris or Rome, although I would always choose Rome over Paris. I love Paris, but I love Rome more. And in my experience, Rome doesn't tend to get super cold, even in February.
