Euro Travel Quiz # 53 - Day Trips

Jump to last reply

Base cities are a thing I love - find a sweet city to stay in and from which you can do easy day trips sans luggage by train or bus or car to nearby gems. If staying in a huge city like Paris day trips also get you out to the more real France, etc.

1- The place where Napoleon met his final Waterloo, Waterloo, is just a few miles south of what major city?

2- From Paris if you took a train to Vernon what village and famous sight would you probably be visiting a few miles from Vernon?

3- A popular day trip from Munich goes to Fuessen, at the foot of the Bavarian Alps - why do people flock here - what two castles do they come to see and what was the nickname of the Bavarian King who built the most famous of the two castles?

4- A popular day trip from Copenhagen goes "Round the Sound' - starting from Copenhagen you first cross the Ore Sound tunnel bridge by rail or road and from there how would the Round the Sound proceed to get back to Copenhagen in a complete loop or circle. What famous castle is on this loop?

5- From Berlin Germans flock to Lubenau to the south to do what kind of aquatic activities on the Spreewald - two different types - on you sit back on a tour and if like the Germans drink tons of beer and schnapps at well-speced waterside bars - the other you're on your own - what are these two types of popular water experiences here?

6- From Dresden if you go north a short ways what city could you visit to see the town's famous ceramics factory?

7- Just south of Krakow, Poland is a UNESCO World Heritage Site - in Wielcizka - what is that UNESCO site and why is it a World Heritage Site - what would you see on the tour of this place that is so awesome?

8- A popular daytrip from Amsterdam goes north by ferry or bus or bike to these two old towns across a bay from each other. The most famous one is a veritable open-air museum of traditional Dutch life circa 1900s - folks dress up in vintage costumes - then you take a boat across the bay to its counterpart - a modern town with however a really neat harbor front full of cafes and waffle shops and oubs - from there you can take a bus back to Amsterdam.

What are these two towns?

9- From London you can day trip to a castle that was Anne Boylene's childhood home?

10- A short day trip from Madrid takes you to a palace dubbed the 'Spanish Versailles" - it's between Madrid and Toledo - what is its name?

Good luck; sleep tight; let the bed bugs bite!
