Euro Quiz # 87 - Paris Potpourri

1- How did Montmartre get its name - according to the legend of Saint Denis?

2- There are two natural islands in the Seine within sight of Notre-Dame Cathedral - what are they called?

3- This fine foods epicerie as it calls itself in on the Place Madeleine - world-famous for its delicacies - come here for gourmet picnique grub - name of this place?

4- What is the limited access beltway freeway that rings central Paris called?

5- Years ago when I first went to Paris to make a telephone call one had to buy this token, called what to use in phones?

6- This fairly new park in the near eastern Paris suburbs - just west of Joinville-le-Pont was once a race track and now has a nice children's park and golf course amongst other amenities.

7- This famous Paris bar at # 5 Rue Daunou celebrated its 100th birthday in 2011 - it was once the haunt of American ex-pats in Paris.

Harry's will be OK but it is Harry's New York Bar techincially - "tell the cab drive cinq rue do know" and he will know Art Buchwald I believe said American ex-pats would say.

Bedar - thanks for the Hediard - looked it up and yeh it looks like it fits the bill - I'll have to look in next time in Paris!

nytraveler and bedar have all right so far!

1. Means mountain of martyr since St. Denis was beheaded there. He was the bishop of Paris.

Well grandmere - My sources say St Denis was beheaded but miraculously ran off with his severed head cradled in his hands until collapsing on the highest nearby hill - closest to Heaven he could get - and then they changed the name of that hill from Mars Hill or Venice Hill to Montmartre - mount of the martyr.
