For # 8 , there is a nice one in Lucerne Switzerland.
This device is to slow the water down , not to direct it or harness it for power.
I thought it was interesting. I "walked across it .

hetismij2:
Ahhh, Bless your Irish heart there Laddie !

Yes of course my dear, that'll be Galway Bay.

Here are the Lyrics and below listen to Bing Crosby:

Claddagh is a stony walkway. I made sure Iwalked the Claddagh along Galway bay when I was there.

gossoons.... are little boys.

O it may be some day I'll go back to Ireland
If it's only at the closing of my day,
For to see again the moon rise over Claddagh
And to watch the sun go down on Galway Bay.

For to hear again the ripple of the trout stream
The women in the meadow making hay
Or to sit beside a turf fire in the cabin
And watch the barefoot gossoons at their play

O the winds that blow across the sea from Ireland
Are perfumed by the heather as they blow
And the women in the uplands diggin' praties
Speak a language that the strangers do not know.

Yet the strangers came and tried to teach us their ways
And they blamed us too for bein' what we are
But they might as well go try and catch a moonbeam
Or to light a penny candle from a star.

And if there's going to be a life hereafter
And somehow I feel sure there's going to be
I will ask my God to let me make my heaven
In that dear land across the Irish sea.

And now listen to Bing:

The 4th line in Galway Bay is:

"And to watch the sun go down on Galway Bay."

I sat on a bench along the Claddagh and waited for the sun to go down.

I was only going to be here once , so I wanted that memory from the song !!

Here are pictures of the Claddagh in Galway Bay.

Well if Edinburgh ain't on it then list is flawed - Neuschwanstein is - enough said. I suppose the more famous a castle is like Blarney Castle may be on the list - how about Sans Soucci in Potsdam?

Or perhaps my favorite, Chateau d'Eaux in any French town!
