I posted a similar message for a NL portion of the trip. Thanks for all the great ideas for that part of the trip. This is the UK portion. I admit not having done that much research about these places. Setting up the trip and gigs is a lot of logistics as it is! The plan is one night in each town, early March. The main point is to perform music but as we'll be driving in between, it's fun to have an idea of any must sees along the way or in some of the stops.
Basingstoke, UK
Barnsley, UK The Wheelhouse
Shrewsbury, UK The Hive
Turners Hill, UK House Concert
Twickenham, UK
Thanks for any thoughts.

Ludlow is just a short drive or train ride from Shrewsbury - right up on the Welsh border and is a sweet regional town with a famous stately house and some very acclaimed restaurants - make it a lunch or dinner stop perhaps. A smaller town gem for sure.
Basingstoke to Barnsley takes 4 hours on a good day -and not too much scenic right along the route. A detour to Rutland Water/Stamford/Burghley House could be good.
The fastest route from Barnsley to Shrewsbury takes about 3 hours and Chester would be a decent detour. Or you could go via the Peak district which would be a bit slower but lots to see - scenery/Chatsworth/other stately homes/villages
Do you mean Turners hill in Sussex? That is a 4+ hour drive w/lots of possibilities along the way - Stratford/Warwick/Oxford/Windsor. Probably only time for one.
Turners Hill to Twickenham is maybe 90mins unless there is a traffic tie up (quite likely)
If you are at all interested in gardens - RHS Wisley is right on the route.
