having had many long term work assignments in stratford, i have found few good restaurants in stratford. many LOOK like fine restaurants but in fact are awful.
dirty duck is ok but very inconsistent for food. often the service is appalling and the atmosphere in the restaurant at the back is dreadful. the food is most uninspiring. of course it is the standard place to get a pint and not a bad one at that...although it does get very crowded with tourists.
i would try the one elm. it is a good solid restaurant and bar. the atmosphere is very nice and it has a good mix of locals. being slightly off the main tourist drag (although not inconvenient to town centre), it has to try a bit harder to build its reputation with locals. whereas most restaurants on sheep street are overpriced, disappointing and catering to the single visit tourist.
