My wife & I will be driving from Rome airport to Florence a week from today. Will be leaving the airport around noon. Have no idea about actual driving times. What would be a nice place to stop for lunch en route? Thanks!

Take the highway into the GRA (Big Ring Road), go north to the S2 and follow it north. From there there are many towns, but two that might work well are Montefiascone, famed for eels from the lake and the white wine, Est!Est!Est! Another would be to visit Caprarola and the Villa Farnese. See a description at:
http://www.initaly.com/regions/latium/papal.htm
You should be able to get there before lunch, visit the Villa, eat lunch at a local trattoria and leisurely make it to Florence by dinner.
You can be at Orvieto in 1:30 from the airport.
Plan to spend 2 hours at this charming village
and enjoy the beautiful Duomo. Get back on A-1
after lunch and you will be in Florence in 2 hours.
