Electronics type store in Rome?

I'd like to pick up a Canon power shot or sure shot or whatever those things are called, so that I don't have to pull out my phone for taking pictures, but haven't a clue where to go to get one here, Is there anyplace here like a BestBuy or Target? (I really need a few cheap kitchen supplies too) (I've found where Ikea is, but not if there's a bus there or not)

Many thanks!

TF

Where in Italy are you? If Rome, there was a camera store across the street from the Piazza del Popolo that should have what you're looking for. Sorry, but cannot remember the name of the store. Good luck!

Well, ok - saw your post said you were in Rome after posting. Sorry 'bout that!

There are camera shops and electronics shops all over Rome. I don't see why pulling out a camera has any advantage over pulling out your phone, though.

Open Google Maps and enter "camera shop: [nearest piazza to where you happen to be in Rome)."

I'm pretty sure a store we shopped at in Siena was UniEuro. Sounds like a chain (it was good sized, but not as big as a Best Buy). Perhaps there is one in Rome. Someone with me bought a lens for her camera. Otherwise, there are several stores in the train station in Rome. In Termini, go down a level. Lots of stores and several electronic.

there is actually an ikea pop up on piazza san silvestri right now (walking distance to you). they have limited offer but might be enough for what you ar elooking for. if you need to go to the real ikea, there are buses and metro to the one in the north (buffalotta). use google maps for reliable and easy public transport info.
smaller electronic shops are everywhere, but i don't know what a canon power shot is so can't say if they'll have it. if you need a bigger store, like media world, there is one at the mall where the northern ikea is, too.

Wonderful! You are all WONDERFUL!! Ikea is precisely what I need for a few necessities (a second pillow for example, and some substitute for a closet and a clothes line). I did not see one in the north, but hopefully the pop up will have the few basics that I need. (I am used to France with a Monoprix around every corner and a fnac in every town. Even in Morocco there is a Marjan outside most towns).

And what I love about all this is that it forces me to go to parts of town that I don't know or haven't gone to yet this trip (I've only been here 4 days most of which were stuck doing business...) and to use my baby Italian and re discover the things I love about Rome!

The reason I'm looking for an electronics, Fnac/Target type place is that I don't want to spend as much as they'd want me to in a camera store. (And not pulling out a phone keeps my phone safe and charged for what it's needed for -- not risking losing or breaking it for the lousy photos it takes.) All this info is greatly helpful! Really!! Thanks so much!
