electronic language translators, recommendations?

anyone used any of the following electronic translators: Ectaco, Franklin, Lingo, Radio Shack or Seiko? (or any others?) German-English. I'm looking for something more than basic tourist words. Are these devices worthwhile at all?

Great question. I've been wondering the same thing, especially since the prices range from $30 to $200. I hope someone responds.

I have a Franklin ($50) that I love-- I wouldn't leave home without it. It enabled me to have a wonderful conversation with two French ladies during a long train ride.

If you happen to have a hand-held (such as a Palm) anyway, the Collins programs are fabulous.

Does anyone have experience (good or bad) with the Lingo 10 talking translator?

Merci, gracias, grazie - Since that's the extent of my multi-lingual talents, please help.
