ElderHostel tours - opinions

Hello,

I recently found an interesting tour that I am thinking of taking with ElderHostel to England/Wales. I was wondering if any of you have used their tour services before? Would you use them again? Thanks for you thoughts.
Lesli
Hi Lesli,
Mother-in-law swears by them, has taken numerous trips with Elderhostel. I wish there was as reasonable and rewarding a service for those of us who aren't yet elders, but hear it comin' down the tracks like the 9:13.

My mother has taken trips with ElderHostel (not England/Wales though) and enjoyed them tremendously and is already planning another for next year. She is a very active 58-year-old.

My wife and I have done three Elderhostels in the US and one in Spain and Portugal. We would use them again.

Minimum age is 55, but the average usually is 65-70. Most people on the trips are very nice by the nature of the concept - they are learning trips for the more active. And they are reasonably priced.

There are hundreds of programs and trips listed in two catalogs, US and international. The topics cover everthing - from actual sports (like skiing) to lectures to cruises. You would be amazed by the diversity of offerings. They are mostly sponsored by educational institutions. With every course the accommodations are listed - from dormitory to hotels. We pick those that are listed with private bathrooms. The guides and lecturers are excellent - that's what you go for.

The food is good and adequate, but not great. You don't go for the food.

We will be in Nashville, TN Sep 21st through Sep 24 for a meeting. Any advice as to where to go, what to see, where to eat. I would appreciate any info you might give me. We will have lots of free time. Thanks Dee
