Edinburgh to Cornwall by car
Hello wise travelers. I need your help. My husband and I and another couple will pick up a rental car in Edinburgh Aug 15 and drive over a span of 10 days to my brothers 50th anniversary in St Austell Cornwall. We are from the US. I would like to see the Lake District, stop in Blackpool for a quick look (I was born there 40 plus years ago), visit friends in Liverpool for a day and night and head to Cornwall on a scenic route through Wales with at least a day in Bath. I will spend two days in Cornwall. Its a packed trip with 4 in a car on the other side of road. EEK! I have been trying to figure out a route and road maps on line and scouring for interesting lodging including B&B's along the way and realized I am over my head. Can you advise on route... where to get a good road map.... recommended stops and places to stay? I will be ever so grateful for any advice.

Does the 10 days include the time in Cornwall or just for the travel between Edinburgh and the SW?
In either case you have enough time but 10 vs 8 days will make some difference.
Based on your wish list here is one possible route:
w/ 8 days
2 nights in the Lakes.
1 night in Liverpool (visiting Blackpool enroute from the lake)
2 nights in either Conwy or near Shrewsbury depending on which part of Wales most appeals.
2 nights in the Cotswolds
1 night in Bath
You don't say where (Cornwall is a big county) but just using Padstow for reference . . . Bath to Padstow is about a 4 hour drive.
If, on the other hand you have 10 days -- I'd spend the first night in Dumfries/Galloway, then on to the Lakes, Liverpool, 2 nights in Conwy. 1 night somewhere in the Wye Valley and then > the Cotswolds > Bath.
And yet another option would be to skip the Cotswolds -- visit Bath after the Wye Valley and spend the 'extra' 2 nights in Dorset/Devon.

Thank you Janis. We fly back home on the 10th day so we have 9 days and need two days in St Austell. I was looking at Wales and it looks so absolutely beautiful. Is Caernarfon Castle a sight we should see? it looks like its near Conwy? we thought we would follow some of the coast. Is there time to see Pembrokeshire?, Snowdonia?.If we had two days traveling through Wales?
I love your suggestion of the Cotswolds too. Such beautiful country such little time ..sigh...

Unfortunately no. Snowdonia -- yes since it is near Conwy/Caernarfon.
Caernarfon Castle is interesting as is Conwy castle (even more than Caernarfon IMO). But to fit in SW Wales/Pembrokeshire would add several days to your itinerary. W/ only 2 days you can see a small bit of North Wales . . . or bypass it entirely and see a small bit of Cardiff/south Wales. In Wales (and the Cotswolds and the Lakes) you will be lucky to average 35 mph so you can't cover as much territory as you might think.
