Edinburgh Day Tours

We are planning a trip to Scotland next May and want to take a day tour out of Edinburgh to see the Highlands. Can anyone suggest a tour company?

I took the Timberbush tour last summer to the western highlands and loved it. They leave from right outside Edinburgh Castle.

You are so lucky. My husband and I spent (only) a week there this summer. We stayed on Edinburgh the entire time and moved around from there. We did take 2 trips with Timberbush and they were terrific. The buses are small (really vans), the drivers are incredibly knowledgable and the amount of miles that we covered would have been quite difficult to do on our own. We took the Oban tour which not many other tours offered and the Loch Ness. We didn't plan to do loch ness, but the side trips/stops that we took as well as the beautiful scenery and boatride, made this a great trip. In fact, we stopped so often that our driver asked us if it would be ok to come home later. We all agreed and were gone about 12 hours. I would highly recommend them. I think that I pre-booked via web through Hostelworld.com but I know that you can directly email them or sign up at their desk which is next the the edinburg castle. Have fun.

Based on the tour descriptions and language, the same tours are listed under many names. For example:

Timberbush Tours = Rabbies Trail Burners = Astral Travels = Sightseeing Direct = Travelers Toolkit.

Lynott Tours = Prestige Tours = Scottish Tours.

There's also ScotLine tours, on the Royal Mile, just down the street from Rabbies Trail Burners. All these companies have websites so you can check out their offerings in advance. (BTW, even if you don't book with Rabbies, go in their office and up the stairs to the first floor - they have on display the actual kilt Liam Neeson wore in Rob Roy - you can even touch it - too bad Liam wasn't in it!)

There's also the tourist information office on the Waverley steps - up stairs from the train station, next to Princes Mall. So you see you shouldn't have any trouble finding a day trip to suit your desires.
