Edinburgh accommodation location help me choose
I have the choice between two locations in Edinburgh to stay for a two night visit.
First location is on Johnston Terrace and second location is near Parliament Square.
Since we have such a short stay, we want to be very centrally located to tourist sights, restaurants, bars, and transport to and from the airport. Also, need to sleep at night so not too rowdy an area. Let me know where you would choose.

Parliament square is Tourist central and an ideal location. Johnston Terrace is not that far away if your accommodation is at the top end of the Terrace.neither place would be that rowdy but if going to be there in August then Parliament Square is Festival Fringe central and can be a bit manic.

Both are very close to each other in the Old Town, so centrally located and close to major visitor attractions. Parliament Sq is just off High St, and Johnston Terrace is nearby Grassmarket, both of which are busy with boisterous party types late at night (esp. Grassmarket which is a very lively place for late night drinkers). Here's the dilemma: if you want guaranteed peace and quiet in Edinburgh you'd need to be further away from the central area and the sights you probably want to visit.

Presumably you'd be located at the Royal Mile end of Johnston Terrace? If so, there's really not much in it. Assuming this is during the tourist season, both locations will be packed with people around the clock, and there will probably be some street noise at night; request a room NOT facing the street if you can.
They're both certainly convenient for exploring the Old Town and Royal Mile; maybe a few hundred feet of difference for getting down to the New Town/Princes Street or the airport tram line. I don't know that they'd be my first choices for location (I'd probably want to be somewhere in the New Town) but certainly adequate, depending of course on the details of the accommodation, price etc.

Give links to the two places . .
The two locations are really identically convenient/well located -- so amenities, and things like which floor, what sorts of windows, etc woukd determine if the place is quiet or not.
If there are dual paned windows - there probably wouldn't be much difference in noise.
