Economy in Paris
I understand the european economy(ies) troubles are a significant part of the dollar's rise against the euro. The fact that the exchange rate is now at 1 to 1.24 has me seriously thinking of reviving a trip in 09. Any serious problems looming in 09 for a trip to say Paris?

What kinds of "serious problems"?
Greves or manifs (strikes and demonstrations)? Certainly, but only those that involve transportation would be a problem for a visitor. Maybe public employees like museum staff could be a problem.

Yes - the same problems the European tourists faced early this year when traveling to USA, when the dollar was so low. You know, breakdown of public order, widespread looting and so on, that US citizens had to suffer

Well one of our European experts whom I believe lives in Germany has insisted as late as a couple weeks ago that by next week (November, 2008) the euro will cost $2! And he is NEVER wrong he says.

Damn Europeans. They strike just when they want to, with no thought for the needs of US tourists.
Just bring plenty of nylons and Camel cigarettes, and hope that Bush hasn't bombed somewhere, anywhere, just because he can.

In addition to the dollar, I heard about Sarkozy's threat to business thinking of cutting staffing levels, etc. Given the economy, I understand that strikes may be more likely, but that doesn't appear to be a requirement for a strike in the transportation field. Is it getting bad enough that it will impact the average tourist? The last time we went were sandwiched in between the riots/burning cars(or "breakdown of public order, looting" in December 05 and March 06 so we luckily missed the turmoil. I know some posters here actually live in Paris and have been particularly acute in their advice as to what is going on. An "ear to the rail" type thing, I guess, is what I'm looking for.
Thanks.
Thanks.
