Easyjet debit card booking problem

I've been trying to book a flight through easyjet but each time I enter in my debit card information I get an error message from easyjet. Does anyone one what would cause this. I know that I can try using my credit card, but I've been trying to avoid that because it costs more. Do you think that it has anything to do with the fact that it's a debit card from the United States? I tried contacting their technical support, but haven't heard back, so maybe someone here can help me.

Another poster (I think bob brown) had this problem and posted about it a few weeks ago.

My experience is that EasyJet is quite finicky. It rejected on credit card for no reason, but accepted the other.

I think USA folks have to use credit cards. The good news is now you can consolidate all your flight segments under one "fee", where it used to (seemingly) require each flight trigger an extra payment and credit card charge.

I thought their web site explained that the fee is only avoidable using local UK or european debit cards of a particular family or two. You can save half of the trivial fee maybe by using a credit card with 2 or 5% "kickback", a US secret weapon.

I had exactly the same problem and I emailed them 5 or 6 times before I got a reply. When I did hear from them, they were very helpfull and suggested that I delete all internet files and cookies on my computer. This makes sense to me and should sort out the problem. However, I already decided to go by train and havent tried again. Go to tools and then internet options.

I'd guess that viking is right, & USA folks have to use credit cards. I had the same problem with Ryanair - eventually phoned their help desk & was told the site would only accept Euroland debit cards.

I have a SOLUTION to this problem!

First of all, I had this same problem. You use a debit card and the easyjet website will not accept it even though your details have been correctly entered. The error message you receive should say something like this: The card type you have specified (e.g. Mastercard, Visa) does not appear to match the card number supplied. Please check that the card type selected is correct.

Second thing: DON'T EMAIL EASYJET! If you e-mail them (or use facebook), they will first tell you to try another card. If that isn't an option for you, then they will tell you to call to book your flight. The catch is that if you call them for the purpose of booking a flight it will come with a surcharge, which is an additional 18 Euros/ 15 pounds.

The way around this error WITHOUT the surcharge is to contact easyjet through their phone service. (Numbers provided at the link below) The service will prompt you first for a language and then second for the type of service you are requesting. Option number 1 is to book a "New" flight. Although it would logically make sense to select this as your service, DO NOT USE OPTION 1. Instead continue to wait until all options have been explained. The last option should be to speak with a representative for "other" issues. Once you get to the representative, explain your problem. Let them know that 1. You are trying to book online. and that 2. You have tried "multiple" cards and they are not working. Then you should ask them if they can book the flight for you over the phone but without the surcharge. They should agree to do this because it is not your fault that their servers won't accept your card(s).

Last thing... If you like what I've written here then please share it so that others will know what to do.
