eastern europe advice

I have planned to travel western Europe for 2 months starting July 2 and ending august 26. turns out I am saving more money than I thought and would like to add eastern Europe on to my trip.

please give me any tips, tricks or advice for my rough draft itenerary. I haven't booked anything and was hoping not to and just call or book online a few days ahead of each destination. I got the hostel prices on booking.com.

ferrry from Ancona-Split
split - 2 nights -60$
split to kotor
kotor - 2 nights - 20$
kotor - tirana
tirana - 2 nights - 30$
tirana to athens - 130$
athens - 4 nights - 40$
athens to istanbul flight - 130$
istanbul 4 nights - 60$
istanbul to sofia flight - 130$
sofia - 2 nights 20$
sofia to belgrade
belgrade - 2 nights - 20$
belgrade to budapest - ~60$

the figures i have come out to 700$, since I couldn't find bus fares and train fares I want to budget $1400 total for the whole trip.

I had originally planned to fly from Rome to Athens but decided this way would allow me to see a few other countries while making my way towards Athens and Istanbul which are my "real" destinations. my time is flexible so I can stay a few more nights if I want or stay less in some places if I don't like them.

any sights or attractions I should be sure to see? cities to change or to skip?
