Dubrovnik to Bavaria, or Venice

Our daughter and her husband have returned from their honeymoon in Dubrovnik, and are urging us to go. We plan to go to Bavaria in May of 2009. If we fly to Dubrovnik, what is the best way to get to the Bavaria area? Alternatively, we could go to Venice and drive back to Austria/Germany. What is the best way to get to Venice?

Note that we are looking for the least expensive way to do this, but saving time is important also.

Thank you--Jean

I hope that I got your question right, but if you are looking for a cheap and fast one-way connection from Dubrovnik to Bavaria, you can looks at tuifly.com 's web fares.
They fly non-stop Dubrovnik - Munich for €56 pP incl. tax&fees.

Lufthansa also has a non-stop service currently from Dubrovnik to Munich, but will be much more expensive.

Forget about the one-way drive Venice -Bavaria. The drop off charge for a car picked up in Italy and dropped off anywhere in Germany is very high.
There are ferries from Dubrovnik to Venice, and good trains from Venice to Bavaria (essentially Munich, or with a change of trains in Innsbruck to Mittenwald or Garmisch-Partenkirchen and then, later on to Munich.Check www.bahn.de for schedules.

I can't help you with the ferry company name, but I saw it docked at the San Basilio dock in Venice, when I picked up the M/S Monet cruise from Venice to Dubrovnik and back to Venice. The latter was not inexpensive, but covered a lot of places in a week's time in a very pleasant way..

Why would anyone in the world take a ferry and train to get from Dubrovnik to Munich - keeping in mind that the OP said that "saving time is important also" - and when ferry plus train will probably never beat a final price of 56 Euro for a 90min non-stop flight?
