I just booked tickets to Ireland last night. Round trip Phoenix to Dublin for $575, September 27-October 12. We'll be meeting friends in southwest Ireland Oct. 4-12. We'd like to spend the first week around Dublin and maybe Northern Ireland. We plan to use public transportation for this part of the trip and to meet our friends at Gneeveguilla, near Rathmore, County Kerry. Can you help me accomplish this? Is there Uber in Ireland? Our interests are museums, churches, history, pubs and food. Thank you for your help.

While most of my touring around Ireland & N.I. have been driving, I did have a wonderful visit to Powerscourt House & Gardens by public transport from Dublin. Directions on their website: http://powerscourt.com/ I recommend it.

Take the train or bus to Belfast, easy to do. Stay central Belfst and you won't need a car.

We also got on the train and did some touring at places we wanted to visit.

Dublin has so much to see but you can also take the dart train to Howth or south to other seaside villages.

Very doable with all the public transportation in Dublin, The luas and Dart train are great. I have used cabs in Ireland frequently but never uber.

You have 15 days in Ireland and have 5 days before heading by bus to Rathmore.

I suggest you get the bus from Dublin Airport to Belfast. Have a day for the City and a day for a tour, either Causeway coast and Glens or Game of Thrones. There are several options.

Drop to Dublin for 2 days before heading south west.

Macross. If TA was so good people wouldn't be coming to me via Facebook because they don't like the attitude of some on TA. At least Fodors isn't Klanish and whilst we might not all get on all the time and have the odd disagreement, there is no direct nastiness or B***ing which is rife over there.

Lucky you didn't book your tickets for now in Ireland, buses and trains are on strike! That will be long over by September though. We don't have Uber but we have Hailo (recently renamed MyTaxi), it's an app and you can pay by card through the app.

Public transport is great in Dublin, you can use bus or train, though lots of places will be within walking distance. Also there's plenty visitor information centres. The rest of the country has a good if a little pricey bus and train system.

Thanks so much for your replies. They are very helpful. I know there is a lot of information online, but it can be confusing to pull it all together. Another question - can anyone recommend a moderately priced hotel $100-150/ night near public transportation in Dublin?
