Dublin - Where to stay on a tight budget.

We will be in Dublin in November. We are looking for centrally located budget accomodation in the city, we are finding Dublin's accomadation quite expensive. We have found many propeties, in our budget, on the northside on or near the following streets:- Talbot St, Gardiner St, O'Connor St Upper and Marlborough St. What is the area around these streets like? We have read that the northside has alot of crime is somewhat unsafe. Should we avoid the area around the streets listed above. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

What is your budget? If you give that, people here may be able to recommend other places for you.

Thanks for the feedback.

My budget is 50 euros per night. I do not mind simple basic accomnodation, but I need the place to be clean and centrally located.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks.

We stayed at Jury's Inn- it's a chain, similar to Holiday inn. It is on the river, and wasn't too expensive.

The lower end of GArdiner street is just ok in my opinion. There is a hostel called Paddy's place there beside the bus station and they may have private rooms.

Try the mercer hotel near Grafton street as one section is a hotel and another I heard is more a hostel and the price is good.

Where on O'Connell street are you thinking of? I would not stay on Talbott or Marlborough street if you are staying out late. I live here and will walk home with my boyfriend through these areas but they can get a bit dodgy late at night. Friends of mine stayed at a hostel on Talbot street when they first comae over to look at apts and they hated it.

Try www.hosteldublin.com or http://www.hostels.com/en/ie.le.du.html

The areas mentioned are perfectly fine in the day but it could be the difference between an awful plce or pay slightly more for a better place. If it is 50pp per night look at Jurys or even B&B's.

I just remembered seeing a hostel-type place in the Temple Bar area. I think it was a bar/rest with the hostel on the top floor. Maybe someone knows the name? I also recommend hostelworld.com- there are also inexpensive hotels/inns/apts and all have photos and reviews.

Thanks for the feedback. I just wanted to clarify that the budget of 50 euros is per night, but I am travelling by myself, so I will need a single room.
