Dubai / UAE Visa requirements for US citizens

Jump to last reply

I'm reposting this on the Europe board given that I have not gotten a response on the Middle East board. I know we have many world travellers on the Europe boadand I am hoping one can shed some light. here's my question:
I'm seeing conflicting information on-line about visa requirements. I will be in Dubai (in transit to India) for about 36 hours. The UAE embassy web site suggests that I do not need any Visa. However the Dubai Visa Processing Center says I do - does anyone no for sure? Or, is it simply that the stamp upon entry at the airport in Dubai is in effect a 30 day Visa? I want to do any necessary processing bfore we leave, if we need to do so.
