Driving to Andorra - never driven on icy roads!

Hello! I am traveling to Andorra from Barcelona on Feb 12, 2013. I have never driven on icy/snowy roads. Do you think it is dangerous? Is it necessary to have special tires?

Go to your other site..But I wouldn't consider it at all. These are winter mountains, twisty roads and stick shifts..NO NO NO.

Yes, special tires or chains. Are you going skiing ? If not, there is no reason to go. All you'd find would be banks and discount electronics stores. Don't bother.

Absolutely not. Especially if, in addition, you have no or little experience driving in Europe. Yes, you need special tires/chains. And Andorra is a cheesy destination anyway.

One more nay-sayer.

The weather is particularly bad at the moment, husband was just reading local forecast and it's expected to remain nasty (we are about an hour north of Andorra) throuigh a week from Thursday.

<< Do you think it is dangerous? >>

Of course it is! Nothing will help if the road is icy. Don't do it.

If you feel you must drive over terrible conditions then make sure you have insulated blankets, food, and water in your car. If you rent a car check the liability to see how much damage you're responsible for when driving in conditions where you should not.

It has less to do with driving with a stick shift which in fact can be a lot less dangerous on icy roads than using an automatic than just never having driven on icy roads. It has nothing to do with Andorra and all about YOU.

Of course it is dangerous and what makes it even more dangerous is the fact that you are even thinking of doing it.
