Driving Time and Route from Galway to Dingle

We will be driving from Galway to Dingle Town on September 14th. We plan to visit the Cliffs of Moher, take the Tarbert ferry across the Shannon River, go thru(or bypass?) Tralee, and then go over the Connor Pass to Dingle. Is this do-able in one day? How long will it take? We don't plan to tour the Burren,so we don't need to allot time there.

We have done the trip in reverse. It is approximately 150 miles via the ferry going directly, not via the Cliffs. Be sure the weather is nice if you go over the Connor Pass. We left Dingle at 11 AM ( I always keep track now of times) At 12:45 we were at the Tarbert ferry. (1/2 hour on the ferry).By 2 PM we were in Ennis with 65 miles to go. We stopped for lunch and were in Galway at 4. There are no major highways. That is the direct inland way, so your way would take longer, but can be done in a day if you leave early enough.

Thanks for the good information. We'll leave early and plan for a relatively slow travel day. Nice to know that it can be done in about 5 hours.

It's certainly doable in a day though, if you are like me and stop a lot, it can be a long day.

You do it but it will take most of the day. We opted to stop in between at Kilkee, but mainly because our friends were golfing in Doonbeg, otherwise we'd have gone straight through to Dingle. Enjoy, there are gorgeous towns in Clare if you drive along the cost.

Regarding towns to stop in on the way....I was planning a brief visit to Doolin and Lahinch. How does that sound? Any other suggestions? I would hate to miss a "gem" along the way just because I didn't know about it.

The area around Kilkee is gorgeous. Kilkee can be very crowded in the summer, but should be considerably calmer in mid-September.
