Driving route advice: Rothenburg, Passau, Vienna, Salzburg, Fussen, Munich

We are getting close to finalizing our 10-nights driving vacation in May which will start with
a night in Rothenburg (flying in to Nuremberg),
then on to Passau for one night (day and a half to see Passau, Melk, Mauthausen)
on to Vienna for 3 nights before
driving to Salzburg (via Hallstat) and staying there for 2 nights,
then to Fuessen for 1 day and MAYBE a night before heading to Munich for 2 nights.
(last night is Zurich and we will train from Munich to Zurich)

I would appreciate your recommendations and advice regarding these questions:

1. Which place do you recommend for an overnight stay, Passau or LInz?
Are we allowing enough time or should we stay one more night here and leave for Vienna first thing in the morning?
We'd like to spend a couple hours biking/picnicking in Passau, definitely want to visit Mauthausen.

2. After our second night in Salzburg we'd like to see the castles in/near Fuessen. We don't need to see them all. If we drive leisurely from Salzburg toward Fuessen, will we have time to "Disney" castle in the afternoon?
Would you recommend a night in Fuessen before returning to Munich?
Or is the distance and drive short enough that we can start out in Salzburg in the morning, experience Fuessen and return to Munich in the evening (and therefore have more time in the city)?

Thanks so much in advance -- I've already read so many helpful comments that have allowed us to put together the itinerary above. I know it sounds ambitious.
