Driving in and out of Bergamo
We are driving from Verona to Como late August and thought Bergamo might be a nice place to stop for lunch. I just read that "Bergamo is purgatory to navigate, hell at rush hours (whick is nearly always), and once you reach your destination you may as well be in limbo with no place to park". Just wondering if anyone experienced it being this bad. If this is true, perhaps just driving to Como without stopping anywhere might be a better option. Thank you for any advice.

It's been a while since we've been there, but yes, it's a bit of a hassle driving into and out of the citta alta. There is a car park about halfway up the hill, and that's what we used. But then again, we were staying there for 2 nights. Not sure if I'd just "stop for lunch."

another alternative. park your car in the new part of the city and take the funicular to the citta alta. its easy and there aaare some great places to eat on top. just remember that all but the food places will be closed for the afternoon siesta

We've been to Bergamo twice and I don't recall it as a big problem with a car. However, the 2nd visit we did as peterrabbit suggested. Parked, tooked the funicular and had a lovely lunch in the Citta Alta.

Thanks to petertherabbit and Grandma. Maybe we'll shoot for a few hours in Bergamo afterall. My husband does not mind driving in Italy,(this will be our third time with a car there). We would love to see Bergamo, if even just for lunch, so we can plan on what to do next time.
