We are staying one night in Killiane Castle (outside of Wexford) and want to drive to Cobh/Cork area AND stop at Waterford factory (and drive back to Killiane Castle) in ONE DAY. Do you think that this is possible? Also, what are the highlights in Cobh/Cork area besides Lusitania/Titanic museum?
Driving from Wexford to Cobh (and back) in one day?

The Waterford factory has closed. I'm also interested in what is new in Cobh.
It's about 120 miles of not terrific road. Allow about 2.5 - 3 hrs each way. Easily, but not that enoyably, doable in a day
I'm honestly puzzled why, if you're not aware of anything worth doing in Cobh, you want to go there. Cork's just a run of the mill British city: pleasant enough as a local metropolis - but little worth making a detour for. The terrific stuff starts about 30 miles SW of Cork: really not sensibly accessible as a day trip from Wexford (getting round Cork takes forever)
oliverandharry: do you mean that the Waterford Crystal factory is closed?
flanneruk: Can you suggest places to see that are doable from Wexford? We only wanted to go to Cobh because we heard that the Lusitania & Titanic stuff was interesting. But if that's all that is there, we would consider driving somewhere else.
Waterford Crystal had financial problems and closed in January.

Some assets were bought, but apparently the factory in Waterford wasn't one of them. I guess impromptu tours were happening a few months ago, but I'm sure it's not quite the same tour it used to be, if indeed they are still going on.
I'm so sad about the factory closing! We're thinking about going to Kilkenny instead. Any thoughts?
Should be a nice day trip from Wexford.
If you do go, try to take the route via New Ross, and then on R700 near/along River Nore. Especially Inistioge, which is 2/3 of the way between New Ross and Thomastown is a very beautiful village. Near Thomastown you will find Jerpoint Abbey to visit before you get to Kilkenny.
Thank you, Cowboy1968 for the alternate route. MultiMap suggested R704 from New Ross area.
Cowboy1968: We just got back home (today) and we loved the alternate route you suggested! We visited the Dunbrody Ship in New Ross, drove thru Inistioge, walked around the Jerpoint Abbey and toured Kilkenny Castle. I must add that we were a bit disappointed in the Kilkenny Castle. They have basically replaced any original furnishings with reproductions!! And the gorgeous tapestries are NOT there, but on loan to another organization! We did have a great lunch at the new Hibernian Hotel, though.
