Driving from St. Julien de Civry to Annecy
We will be in France in September - a mix of business and pleasure.
For the business part , we´ll be in Lyon at the Sofitel for 4 days.
Then we will proceed to http://www.chateaudevaulx.com/anglais/index.htm in St. Julien de Civry for a 3 day stay. We will be renting a car in Lyon for this portion of our journey.
After our 3 day stay ( we plan to explore the surrounding areas and relax) , we will head for Annecy. We will be staying at the http://www.abbaye-talloires.com/ for 3 more days before we head home.
My question: Anything of interest on the drive between St. Julien and Annecy? Villages to stop in for a peek? Of course , I´ve looked at maps and reserched , but it´ll be our first visit to the region.
And in Annecy? Favorite things to do or see? Thinking of visiting Chamonix....
We are laid back , not huge " must do lots of things" , but we want to make the most of our trip.
Thanks. kim

Sorry no answers to your question, but to say you will love the Chateau Vaulx. It is one of my favorite places in France. Marty will cook for you and he is a great cook. Also, we ate one night at the Chideroun...I do not think I spelled that right. It was wonderful. Marty made a reservation for us. We were in the Suite Choiseil....reallly lovely. the grounds are lovely also.

One more thing ...while you are at the Chateau Vaulx....try to get to La clayette. It is a neat little town with a chateau and a wonderful chocolatier...Bernard Dufoux. In September you might want to ask Marty about vineyards and wineries....the vineyards ought to be in color. Marty will have some good wine for dinner. We are always there in late October and the area is wonderful. Jane and Michael

For your Annecy stay you can have a look at my trip report about spending two weeks there last August. It's got photos and descriptions of all the places I visited in that area, including a day trip to Chamonix to go up the Aiguille du Midi:

I'm probably in the minority with this opinion but I preferred going up to the Semnoz Plateau near Annecy to Aiguille du Midi. I find the views of white snow and gray rock to be rather monotonous. I've got photos of both places so you an be the judge.

Thank you so much for the replies. I am looking at all the photos . Perouges had already caught my attention , so I think we will make a stop there.
Jane , chocolate and wine are right up my alley! Will most certainly try to visit the village, Marty has been so kind in emails , I am really looking forward to meeting him.
any further suggestions or opinions?

Here's a link to a thread I started last year that was very helpful in planning our route. It has a great deal of detailed information from FrenchMystiqueTours and others:
http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...ins-annecy.cfm
We did go up to the Semnoz plateau and loved the peace and quiet and amazing views.
