Driving from Chianti to Rome
I've completed planning for our trip of six ladies to Tuscany in late Sept. We are flying into Rome and renting two cars there and driving into Chianti where we have rented a villa for the week. My biggest concern is leaving Chianti, returning our rental car, and catching our 10:00am return flight out of Rome. According to MapQuest, the drive from our villa to Rome airport (Saturday morning) will take 3 hours 5 minutes. This means we need to leave the villa at 4:30(ish) Sat. morning and head to FCO-Rome. ARE WE CRAZY FOR TRYING THIS??? I need some advice from you who have made this trip before. thank you so much.

We did the drive from Chianti to Rome this June. It is not a hard drive, but I wouldn't want to have to any long drive so early in the morning. I would suggest leaving Chianti the afternoon before and spending the last night at a hotel near the airport. Assuming you are flying back to the states, travel days are long and leaving at 4:30am means you have to wake up at what time???

We just returned from Italy and I know the villa rentals usually go from Sat. to Sat., but I agree with a previous posting and would get a hotel near the airport. It will cost you more but I think well worth it. You never know if you might have car problems. We did this drive a few years back from San. G. to Rome (and spent 2 nights in Rome)and the drive isn't bad if you aren't catching a flight. Good Luck.
