Driving Beziers/Sete to Cahors: how much longer will scenic route take?
Driving Saturday morning in early September from Sete, any idea how much longer it would take to get to Cahors via Castres, Albi, and Cordes than on the expressways? Twice as long? When the map indicates "minor road," it's difficult to tell how minor. Do we come upon flocks of sheep grazing in the middle of D100?
One time in Arizona we saw what looked on the map like a nice 2-lane blacktop shortcut between Canyon de Chelly and Shiprock NM. The road petered out, and eventually we were driving 3-5 mph over a rocky Indian reservation mountain pass.
On the other hand, is the expressway here significantly less scenic?

You can be assured that the French roads are blacktopped. I can't say how much longer this to arrive but it's certainly more fun. Sure, you might find the goats or sheep but that's why you took the less walked path.
You can run the numbers with www.mappy.fr or you could use the Michelin site. I think it must be something like www.michelin.fr - I just tested and both work.
You might have to look around for English. They probably have an English version.

This might help you a bit too although it's mostly in French.
Check out the dogs too. They're really good at herding the sheep.

See if this URL for Mappy for this route.
http://www10.mappy.com/sidezdSjdYWLU...;x=19&y=10
If this link doesn't work, I put this through Mappy and it says it's about five hours and change. There's only 13 kms on the autoroute and the rest on blacktop.
On Mappy I put Sete to Cahors with stops for Castres and Albi.
I have driven that area but not exactly following the route.
