Driver from Cherbourg to Mt. St. Michelle

Arriving Cherbourg on cruise in September and would like to arrange driver to take us to and from Mt. St Michelle. Group of four. Has anyone any recommendations. Have nine hours in port which should leave enough time.

Forget it. www.viamichelin.com says the trip takes at least 2h40 in each direction. That will not leave enough time to visit Mont Saint Michel. If you are happy just looking at it on the horizon, you can do it.

You would be much better off visiting the Cité de la Mer in Cherbourg, which is extraordinary.

Mt St Michel takes quite a while to see. There is a very long, step climb up the road to get to the top and only then can you enter the Abbey which takes a couple of hours to see.

You really don't have time to get that far and still see anything.

viamichelin says 2:40 . . . but I'd count on 3 hours. You only have 9 hours IN port, not 9 hours free. You will be queueing to get off and queueing to get back on. You will be lucky to have 8 hours 'on the ground'. No way I'd try a day trip to Mont Michel.

Thanks for the rapid response. It appears there is a consensus that it is not worth doing on such a limited time schedule. We will plan a different day trip on our visit.

another vote for the cite de la mer, or go up to the fortress above the city to see where the Germans had their base.

Sorry, but that's a crazy idea. Go to Cité de la Mer.

And it's St-Michel. He was a guy.
