Hello - As part of our 20 day itinerary, we are planning to drive from Zakopane in Poland to Eger, Hungary visiting Levoca and the Spis castle enroute. Has anyone done this drive. If you have, I would appreciate some input on how hard the drive is, the condition of the road and how long it would take. On the map it appears to be quite curvy and mountainous. We will be there end of September.

The D1 (east-west in Slovakia) is a very modern Xway. Flat, fast, smooth. Passes south of Tatry mountains maybe 15 miles.
Once you leave it, it's all two lanes. Levoca to Spis is a good two lane road, but curvy/hilly in one spot for about 5 miles, otherwise fairly flat. Limited in speed to the slowest SKODA. The drivers are nuts. We were passed on a hill on a curve by a local, who swerved into us to avoid a head-on, on the 2 lane road. From that area, south to Eger is a little hilly, but very lightly traveled.
Where do you live? Maybe I could compare Slovakia to it?

Tomboy - thanks for your response. For comparison, I am from San Francisco, US. I dont really mind some curves and hills as long the roads are in good condition. My wife tends to get a little motion sick on the hill but is easily remedied with half a pill or something.
The hills are NOTHING like in SF
We did much the same route you're planning, and when I saw the Tatry Mts., we took a side trip for a few hours. Drove around in them a bit, took a ski lift (Sept) up for a view.
Even tho the Mts are apparently new, sticking up fairly straight as opposed to eroded, the roads in there didn't seem curvy or steep. We saw a local woodsman driving a cart made of a few logs tied together, with wooden wheels like 3 inch thick cross-sections of tree trunks---looked straight out of the 16th century.
Other than that, I'd compare the roads on your route (both Slovakia and Hungary) to driving the CA coast highway, from Monterey up to SF. Beware the drivers, however. Some think it's OK to pass 2 lane roads on curves, on hills. Their informal rule seems to be if an oncoming car appears, the passed car and the oncoming car hit the shoulder. I didn't realize this, hence a sideswipe. If it happens to you, hug the centerline so they won't pass.
Enjoy the trip.
