Drive from MXP to Lake Como (Moltrasio)

Looking for some help here....

We are staying for a week in April at a villa on the lake in Moltrasio. It's about 2 miles from Cernobbio where we can catch the ferry.

We are a large group, and it's suggested that we have a car to get around for groceries or just to get to the ferry.

My question is what is the drive like from MXP to Moltrasio? It's not far I can see, but how are the roads?

I don't do well on narrow mountain roads with hairpin turns.

Thanks!

Patty

Patty, go to Googlemaps and input your destination then do a "directions" and enter MXP as the origin. As you can see these are NOT mountain roads with hairpin turns in any way shape or form if you use the more direct route.

Hope this helps allay any fears.

All motorways up to the Swiss border at Ponte Chiasso (Como Nord). Leave the motorway at Como Nord (half a mile before the border), go on in direction of Cernobbio, turn left to the tunnel bypass before reaching Cernobbio and leave the tunnel at Moltrasio.

BTW: the 4 daily Varenna bound boats which will run in April stop at Moltrasio too; there is no need to go to Cernobbio.

Thanks All! Got a few chuckles out of this post. I did look at Google Maps and it does look quite do-able. After a flight from SFO we will be tired, but I think we can make it!!

The route is very simple. From the airport take the superstrada in the direction of Milan. At the end of the superstrada there is a choice of continuing in the direction of Milan on the autostrada or taking the new route which is an autostrada which automatically registers your number plate. I am not sure how you pay the tolls if you have a hire car. If you continue towards Milan there is an exit which then leads to the autostrada in the direction of Como (for this route there is no additional charge).

You will reach a toll barrier just before the Como Sud exit. After this barrier continue until you reach the Como Nord exit which is the one after Como Monte Olimpino. After the Monte Olimpino exit there is a tunnel where you need to proceed slowly as you may find a queue backed up from the Swiis border. The exit of Como Nord comes quite suddenly after the end of the tunnel. Then proceed to the town of Cernobbio and after passing the Hotel Villa d'Este and a few curves there is a road descending to your right which takes you to Moltrasio following the lake.
