Dress for Bunratty Castle Medieval Banquet
We will be attending the Medieval Banquet at Bunratty Castle as part of a tour of Ireland this May. Will nice slacks be ok to wear. How about Jeans or the clothes we will be wearing for hiking or do I need room for a skirt and nicer shoes?

Slacks are fine, I would be surprised if many people dress more formally since most are touring around the country. The entertainers and waiting staff are dressed in period clothes but that is part of the event. Enjoy!

I've done the Bunratty Castle dinner several times and its a lot of fun. My dh and I went, I've been with a group we brought to Ireland (10 people) and also a tour group that I set up, planned/arranged, etc. with a major tour company. Everyone loves it. Also, a B&B owner that we have stayed with (a local) said they go every year and love it!

I did it several years ago (yes it was an optional on a tour I did tour I did) and it was enjoyable. My only complaint, which is unfair of course, is now that every digital camera even the very cheapest has the ability to make videos and memory cards have become so large, they've cracked down a lot on video taping these type of shows (copyright laws and all that). Of course the real reason is they want to force you to buy the CD or DVD of the show, a large part of their profits.
In any event, I wore my official tourist outfit. Clean t shirt with no obscene phrases, blue jeans without any holes, and sneakers. Nobody said a word and I wouldn't expect anybody to because after all, I go to the theatre both in London and in New York in that uniform.

We did the Medieval Banquet at the "sister" castle, Dunguarie Castle, a couple of years ago. Most of the guests were wearing slacks or jeans. You'd probably feel overdressed in anything fancier.
The entertainment and the food were amazingly good--much better than I would have expected at a touristy event like this. You'll have a great time.
BTW, did you go to Richfield? If so, I was a classmate!
