Well, when I have eaten at J Sheekey, it was men in business suits and women in dressy dresses and trouser suits. Some creative types may have been more casually dressed. But it has been a while.
There's only a tiny handful of eating places in London graceless enough to think they can tell their customers what to wear.
They all carry some reference to the provincial timewarp they live in on their websites.
I've not worn a jacket to Sheekey's since 1971. I've scarcely seen anyone in St Martin's Lane wearing one, except when the Colosseum's having a black tie do, since about 1980.
I think when people as this question, they dont' usually mean it literally in that the restaurant has rules and won't allow someone in otherwise (there are very few restaurants like that), but they really mean what is the norm or accustomed attire of the clientele.
Exactly, thank you. We are traveling with a teenager/young adult so we're just trying to make sure we haven't chosen dress-up restaurants. I have since read that jeans at J Sheekey's is okay. I'd like to assume that jeans are acceptable in most places but wanted to make sure before we leave. Any insight would be appreciated.
