Dover Castle
After reading what various posters said about seeing this Castle I am curious as to how far it is from the train station in Dover. Is it a walkable distance? I have not found a web site on the castle that give much info except for general descriptions and admission fees. No "how to get to us" info that I could find.
We will be in London again in April 2002 and I am looking for places we have not been to yet (we've been to lots of places) for day trips. We've seen many castles in the UK (having stayed in the countryside and rented a car) but this trip we will be London based again.

Yes, Maira we've done that area too. The UK has some really great places to visit. As to Dover Castle, I've managed to find out that you can get from London Bridge Station to Dover Priory -- now I need to know how far to the Castle. Anyone out there know? When we had a rental car on one trip we visited Hever Castle, Leeds, Herstmonceau & Bodian all that area - I guess we should have gone to Dover at that time

Lori, take Ben's advice, you don't want to walk to Dover castle, I don't care how young or old you are. And there are cabs everywhere because Dover is a busy port for the cruise ships. Enjoy! If you are interested, I have a very nice B&B in the heart of town I can recommend. Email me if you want the information.

Dover is worth a visit. My nephew and I spent the better part of a day there. Be sure to take a tour of the WWII tunnels.

But you don't won't to walk from town. Heck, even walking around the castle gives you a good work out as it is built on a very steep hill. (And the town is far below).

Take a taxi to the castle. First go to the WWII tunnels at the bottom of the hill and make your reservations (free) to tour the tunnels. Then walk/take the tram to the top of the hill and work your way back down.

And then if you have some extra time, take a ferry to Calais and back and eat dinner in France. We did and it was great.
