Doubts planning trip to Croatia
Hi there!
I am Bea, a spanish girl travelling with a friend to Croatia in the middle of August. We are not going to drive there, so we have some doubts about transportation during the trip. This is our plan:
Thursday 19 - Arrive to Dubrovnic, sleep there (already booked)
Friday 20 - Travel to Trogir by bus, spend 3 nights there (already booked too). Sightsee Trogir and visit Sibenik if we have time. (?)
Saturday 21 - We can´t find any agencies offering day excursions to Hvar on Saturdays, so we are going to do it by ourselves. We want to take a ferry from Trogir (or Split) to Hvar and visit during the day. Visit Brac if possible too. Questions here: Are there ferries from Trogir to Hvar (round-trip) on Saturdays? Do we have to go to Split instead? Could we visit Brac also that day and come back to Trogir? Return to Trogir in the evening, take a backpack and take the last bus to Plitvice lakes park (22:45). Do we need to buy the ticket before? "Sleep" at a Plitvice hotel (already booked).
Sunday 22 - Visit Plitvice Lakes Park (maybe cycling ?) in the morning. Take the bus back to Trogir at 3:45 pm.
Monday 23 - Make a day excursion to Kornati Islands with Kairos travel agency from Trogir. Do you recommend it?
Tuesday 24 - Travel from Trogir to Dubrovnic. Sightsee Dubrovnic.
Wednesday 25 - Visit the beaches in the Makarska region. Do you know of a beautiful beach not crowded this time of year? (Tough question, I know...)
Thursday 26 - Trip back home.
If anyone has any ideas on how to improve our trip, or can solve our questions, we would really appreciate it!! Specially the boat / ferry stuff.
Thank you all!
Bea.

Yes, Jadrolinija offers Saturday catamaran from Split to Hvar town. It leaves ~11:30 and arrives an hour later in Hvar. But to return to Split using the catamaran, there is only 1 catamaran and that leaves Hvar at 13:45 so you only have a couple of hours in Hvar. If you want to catch a later ferry, there is a car ferry at Stari Grad (~0.5hr from Hvar) that goes to Split.

> visit Sibenik if we have time
I really enjoyed Sibenik, so if you do have time, enjoy!
> Plitvice lakes park . . . Do we need to buy the ticket before?
Unlikely.

I wouldn't think Plitvice a good place for cycling - some of the paths are quite steep and they can be very crowded.

Thursday 26 - Trip back home. >>>
I assume you are flying home from Dubrovnik?
The Makarska beaches (which will be crowded, and BTW they are not sandy but made of small pebbles) are closer to Split than Dubrovnik. So it would make sense to stop along the way if you want to visit these beaches. I think the beach at Brela is the nicest, but frankly I wouldn't bother with this part of the coast. You have such a short time and are already cramming so much in.
The bus ride from Trogir to Split takes around 40 minutes, and the bus to Dubrovnik will take a further 4 hours. You really won't have much time for sightseeing in Dubrovnik.
If it's beaches you want, then Banje beach in Dubrovnik is nice (and sandy), and the beaches on the island of Lokrum are also pleasant, as are those at Lapad and Cavtat. Both are easily reached by bus and boat. And you can swim off the rocks at one of the Buza Bars, situated outside the city walls.
As mentioned before you'd have to go to Split to get a ferry to Hvar,

Thanks for your reply Julia! Yes, I´m flying home from Dubrovnic. About Hvar, we´ve finally found an agency that offers the Hvar escursion during the days we are in Trogir, so that´s solved. About the Makarska beaches, we didn´t really thought it through...We just wanted some relax for our last day before going back home, and we didn´t think about how far it was from Dubrovnic. Thanks for the tips about beaches close to Dubrovnic.
