Dordogne then driving to Paris - a place to stop on the way.
As many of you know (because you've helped so much with the planning), we will be staying in the Dordogne (and near that area) for 10 days in June, and then spending 4 days in Paris before flying home.
The last place we'll be staying is Figeac (probably - possibly nearby, haven't finished booking that one yet). But it's 6-7 hour drive to Paris from there and that definitely exceeds my usual 4 hour rule. So I thought maybe we would cut our Figeac stay by 1 day, and drive part way to Paris, stay the night somewhere, and drive the second part the next day. That way we can take our time, make some stops etc.
So I was thinking maybe someplace in the Loire Valley - does that make sense? Any suggestions? I was looking at Bourges, but I haven't really researched this area at all yet and for one night I don't want to spend too much time.
So the question is - where would you stay on a route from Figeac to Paris? Thanks in advance, I always get such good advice on this forum

Bourges is wonderful. Nice size, a beautiful cathedral, easy striking distance of Paris. Good places to eat. Try to visit the restored home of Jacques Coeur, a rich merchant with a terrific sense of humor.
You might even leave the car there and take a train, though I have no specifics to suggest.

The driving decision is not mine, I suggested the train. My husband LIKES to drive, although in this situation I don't think it's the right decision. So as long as we're going to drive, I figured breaking it into two days, and seeing something nice on the way would be the way to go.
AND, it's nice to have a few votes for Bourges. I will check out the photos, thanks.

If you have the time, you might want to drive from Bourges to Sancerre and visit the Jean Linard compound which, as of last summer, was abandoned but anyone could get in--including, unfortunately, individuals who carried out some minor vandalism.
