Dordogne restaurant recommendations - help me update the list

Here is a list from 2010. It was helped considerably from additions from Fodorites. Carlux, for instance, brought La Gabarre to my attention. We go back this August and look forward to trying at least one new restaurant. The Bib Gourmand are places Michelin thinks give a gourmet experience for 31E or less.

Have any closed or gone downhill? Any not on the list that should be? Has Le Tournepique settled on a name?

Le Bugue - Vélo Rouge
Castelnaud - Le Tournepique / La Table Basque / Chez Antoinette
La Chapelle-Aubareil near Montignac - La Table du Terroir
Daglan - Le Petit Paris (2013 Bib Gourmand)
Domme - L'Esplanade
Domme - Cabanoix et Chataigne (2013 Bib Gourmand)
Les Eyzies-de-Tayac - Le Moulin de la Beaune
Les Eyzies-de-Tayac - La Metaire
Monpazier - Restaurant La Bastide
Montpon - L'Eclade (2013 Bib Gourmand)
La Roque-Gageac - Le Plume d'Oie
La Roque-Gageac - Belle Etoile (2013 Bib Gourmand)
Perigueux - Le Grain de Sel (2013 Bib Gourmand)
Sarlat - Le Bistro de l'Octroi
Sarlat - Le Grand Bleu
Sarlat - Le Presidial
St Cyprien (near) - Bistrot d'Epicure (Great inventive food.)
St-Genies - Le Chateau Le Château
St Julien de Lampon - La Gabarre (2013 Bib Gourmand)
St Leon Sur Vezere - Le Petit Leon (July & August only)
St Martial de Nabirat (south of Domme/Cenac) - St Martial
Tremolat - Le Bistrot d'en Face
Tremolat - Le Vieux Logis
Vezac - Buffet de la Gare
Vezac - Le Relais des Cinq Châteaux

Thanks Michael. La Table du Pouyaud looks like a Bib Gourmand contender!

It's a one-star not a Bib Gourmand.

In La Chapelle Aubareil I would prefer le Bareil to La Table de Terroir- more down to earth, charming host. Also had good reports of La Cavatine, but we havent tried it yet.

I personally have never particularly liked the Esplanade in Domme, but some do. If you want the view, there's a simple cafe right next door.

For a great one star experience, we continue to recommend the weekday lunch at Le Vieux Logis. One of the best restaurants we've come across, and we've been going for over 10 years. Never disappointed.

Finally, La Gabarre continues to be excellent. We are pleased to live across the river from such a good restaurant. Only wish they had chosen our village to settle in.

Not sure Stu; my list is from 2010. It's still listed in the guide-du-perigord.com but that doesn't mean it's accurate.

Carlux, thanks for your comments. I'll incorporate them.

And I think one stars that could also make the price point for bib gourmand should be in their own special category!!

When I was in Sarlat in 2011, I had a wonderful dinner at Rossignol.

Hi Christy!
Bruno who had the food truck in the parking lot at the foie gras store in Castelnaud now has a restaurant up by the chateau Castelnaud. He has a basic tourist menu (salads, etc.) but also a chalkboard menu with a good three-course prix fixe dinner for 21€, changing every few days. I had some delicious pork cheeks there recently; his hamburger is still the best in the area (IMHO).

Also, I haven't checked it out yet, but the Chateau Monrecour (on the road near St. Vincent de Cosse) has now opened a restaurant, and has some chef there who previously cooked at George V in Paris. Fancy, delicious and beautiful, according to my haircutter! We haven't tried it yet ourselves. Take a look at the menu: http://www.monrecour.com/restaurant-notre-carte.php

We ate at la Metairie on a Saturday night and found the food very disappointing. I'll write an extensive review when I'll get home in about three weeks. The long and the short of it is that most of the food, including one of the main dishes, was not fresh: half-thawed bread roll anyone? and they ran out of rolls.

My suggestions come from our trip in 2011, so not much of an update on 2010 perhaps, but since I never did a trip report, here you are:

We enjoyed La Vielle Treille in Audix, near Les Eyzies. It has a fantastic setting under pergolas (well, trellises, I guess) at a hotel in the village, and it was a great lunch stop after a busy morning.

On StCirq's recommendation, my family had our last dinner at Au Vieux Moulin in Les Eyzies, and our last lunch at Le Petit Leon in St. Leon sur Vezere. Both winners!

Hi, pavot. I think you mean Audrix, and it's actually outside Le Bugue, on the road to Le Buisson.

Thanks, StCirq. Bad typing on my part. We went there after seeing the prehistory museum in Les Eyzies, and it didn't take long.

No, it's not a long ride from Les Eyzies. Nice place, too.

L’Instant Delice at 5 Rue des Consuls in Sarlat

From my 2012 trip report:

"In any event, I made 7:30 reservations outside on what turned out to be a spectacular autumn evening. This dinner at L’Instant Delice was to vault to #1 on the trip up to this point. We had one last bottle of wine on the Villa des Consuls patio, and off we went for our final Sarlat dinner.

I had the 13.90€ dinner that started with a walnut salad. What made this place so special was the next dish, a selection of fresh raviolis (smoked salmon, gorgonzola, mushroom, truffle, goat cheese along with tomato and basil). They were scrumptious, and so was the chocolate cake for dessert.

Tracy went for the Walnut salad, Eggplant Parmesan and ice cream.

Kim was our “big spender” on this evening, opting for the 15.90€ dinner that included Confit de canard, while Mary had a delicious Cassoulet, which Kim had fun trying to photograph."

Carlux: Also had good reports of La Cavatine, but we havent tried it yet.

We haven't been there lately, but we did stumble upon the place while lost (!) back in 2006. From our trip report...

"The very friendly proprietor of La Cavatine spoke excellent English and was clearly proud of the quality of their cuisine. We ended up having an excellent lunch, probably the best meal of the trip so far... steak au poivre with potatoes (one degustation menu), one confit du canard with a
very nice rose wine that complemented the duck perfectly. Our hostess’s husband, the chef, came out to make sure everything was to our liking..."

On the OP list, we also enjoyed Le Petit Paris in Daglan. The food was not quite as exceptional as we had heard, but the overall experience of the place made us feel right at home.
