Doolin Bicycle Rental?
I'm getting my Ireland trip together. We are doing a bike tour that will leave from Galway, but we're preceding the tour with four days on our own.
My two daughters and I have biked the Burren before with another tour company; my husband hasn't. We would much prefer to tour the Burren on two wheels rather than four. I DID find the name of a cycle rental in Ballyvaughen. I HAVE NOT found tne name of a cycle rental in Doolin. Most if not all of the Doolin B&B websites mention there's a local bicycle hire but none name them.
Has anyone rented a bicycle in Doolin? If so, from whom? In what condition were the bikes and did they offer helmets?
Thank you.

Thanks for the try, Marlie. You read my mind--I just emailed our hostess before I checked back on here and saw your post.
My Google searches have given me one name there as a dealer, not a renter. In the meantime, there are travelogues from mainly backpackers that clearly indicate people have been renting bikes there.

How did your bike ride go last time you were in Ireland? Although it would be fun, I also think it would be so dangerous.
The roads are so narrow, hilly, and curvy. I think I would be afraid of getting hit by a car.
My husband wanted to rent bikes in Dingle and I'm gla we didn't. We did ride on the Aran Island, but then there weren't many cars there. I did enjoy that.

We loved biking in Ireland. We toured two general areas. The first part took us from Ennis up to Connemara--we did the Burren, Inishmore, Roundstone, Sky Rd and Kylemore Abbey, etc. The second week and a half was in the Southwest. There we did Kenmare, Beara and Healy passes, Baltimore, Kinsale, etc.
Yes, it can be frightening. However, we are from an area of the US where the roads are of similar quality--and where the cars are MUCH bigger and take the turns much faster.
We had to get used to a certain bike etiquette for the one-lane roads (e.g., cyclists need to pull off often to allow any car behind to progress!)and the dogs can be a problem. We've biked extensively in France without any dog incident, so the frequent run-ins in Ireland were a bit frightening at first. We eventually got used to it.
We have not biked Dingle. We were told by the two tour companies with whom we dealt in 2003 that they avoid that area because the roads become non-negotiable when filled with cyclists, large tour buses and inexperienced drivers.
We loved our biking on Inishmore, too.

The Doolin Bike Store has bicycle rentals. If you enter Doolin off of the R478,you will find the bike shop at the bottom of the hill at the T intersection. You can't miss it as there is a large sign on the side of the building just behind the intersection.
