Dolomiti HIking in September. Fall Colors?

Jump to last reply

Hi... My husband turns the big Four-OH in September and we want to go back to the mountain range that we love the most in the world -- The Dolomiti of Italy!! We have been there three times before but all of them were during summer... So we will start planning the details easily some time later...

But we have some basic questions first --

What should we expect for weather in September?
How are the mountains at the time?
Surely there will be no snow on the peaks?
Will the wildflowers be gone by then?
Does that region have any fall colors that will add interest to the landscape?

My husband is an avid photographer and while we truly feel the Dolomiti are dramatic and wonderful any time of the year, just want to know what will be in store for us in September. Or would August be better for wildflowers or is October better for fall colors?? We would prefer to overlap the trip with his birthday in late September but we have some flexibility in our timing of the trip if certain parts of certain months are better for a convincing reason :))

Thanks for all your expert advice and feedback
