Dolomites/Slovenia/Venice
This coming October, we're planning a drive through the Dolomites, starting in Munich, probably (other ideas?) then ending up in Venice. We're intrigued w/ slipping down into Slovenia, however, then taking a ferry across to Venice. If we do that more Eastern route, will we miss the best of the Dolomites? Route suggestions anyone? We've got a week for the drive. Thanks!

Saxon - To see some of the best of the Dolomites you really want to take the Gardena-AltaBadia-Cortina route IMO.
[From Munich you can easily access this route via the Brenner Pass, turning off for the Val Gardena near Bressanone].
I'd highly recommend basing in the Val Gardena (Ortisei) or Alta Badia (Corvara) area for 2/3 days at least. You can do some lovely tours or hikes from there ...
From Cortina you could continue down to Pieve di Cadore - and then head east for Slovenia via Tarvisio and Kranska Gora to the beautiful Lake Bled/Bohinj area ... and on from there.
Hope this helps ...
