I am taking my chihuahua with me to Paris in June and I am wondering if I will be able to take him into any museums (I will have him in a bag). Also, what about the larger parks - are dogs welcome to walk through them?

If anyone has taken a dog to Paris and has any suggestions, it will be greatly appreciated.

I would think that museums would be off limits for dogs. I seem to recall a sign to that effect at the entrance to the Louvre but I could be mistaken. You might could get away with it since your dog would be in a bag.

As far as parks are concerned, some parks allow dogs, some dont and some only allow them in certain areas. You can download a brochure published by the city of paris that tells you all about the do's and dont's of dogs in paris at the following url : http://www.paris.fr/fr/Vos_demarches...es/default.ASP

Look for "Bien vivre avec votre chien". If you cant read french you can at least get a list of parks that allow dogs. It is on page 11 of the guide in the bottom right hand corner.

My general impression is that Paris is the most dog friendly city I have seen.
Too friendly judging by the sidewalks.

Dogs are even in restaurants. We were eating in an Italian place near the southwest corner of Raspail and Montparnasse when one of the regulars came in. He sat by the counter, waited, and the maitre'd brought out his supper. He ate politely (as dogs go) and left.

Except for some Americans, no one paid any attention much, except to see what was slurping.

Nice dog.

I do think that the Louvre and Musee d'Orsay are off limits to our 4 footed friends. Don't recall any touring the art collections.

I hope you will fly him in the cabin with you (in an appropriate carrier of course). I can't stand the idea of putting an animal in the cargo/baggage part of the plane, just so a person can enjoy the company of their pet - it has to be a frightening experience and should not be done lightly.
Of course, others will have an issue with an animal flying in the cabin if they have allergy issues.

By the way, the number of animals for any given flight is limited so you will need to book that part as soon as you get your flight.

I believe the parks that don't allow them have signs near the main pathways or entrance areas -- something like a dog with a bar through it for univeral understanding. I think they may also add "meme tenu en laisse" to the sign which means forbidden even if on a leash.

You're so lucky to have a dog small enough to take with you! I'd love to take my standard poodles but don't think they'd pass as service dogs! And I wouldn't ever subject them to cargo.

jillerberto, just so you know there is a woman here in Naples, Florida who does have a standard poodle as a guide dog! Probably not the best guide dog in the world, but she presents quite an image.
