Does anyone travel with trip notes on an ipad? Tech help please!
I had all of my 2013 Spain itinerary notes on an ipad mini--great accessibility and some files in pdf format. The program is still on the ipad--QuickOffice Pro HD. Problem is, Google no longer supports the program. Good thing my files were not in the cloud.
So I have downloaded DocsToGo. It will sync files to the ipad, but is not as visually pleasing. Some of my files are very long text files. I had a highlighted calendar in QuickOffice Pro. Does anyone have a plan for accessing trip notes on an ipad when out of range of wifi?
Desperately seeking organization! Do you know of a better program? Thanks!

I really don't understand the question. What does Google have to do with Quick Office Pro? What is the origin of the files you want to "sync to the iPad"? And if the files are on the iPad (you said "Good thing they weren't in the cloud", why would you ever need wifi to access them?
Dropbox doesn't sound like the solution you would need, but maybe I've totally misunderstood what you're trying to do. If you have files at home on your laptop, and if you have Dropbox installed on your laptop and on your iPad, and if you've saved those files on the laptop in a Dropbox folder, then you can access them with your iPad, but not without either wifi or a data connection . On the other hand, if you access them through wifi or a data connection, you can download them physically to the iPad and then access them in the future without wifi or a data connection.

I had my docs uploaded to Google Drive. There's an option to make docs visible offline (Takes up your ipad memory of course)
I made screen caps of maps and other stuff and saved them as jpegs.
A mate did lots of stuff on Pages. I think it's a good idea to heavily edit those long files. I've found on the road I just don't get around to reading it all.
Some of the booking sites have apps where you can save your reservations.
In the past I emailed everything to myself but of course you need to be online. Always try to stay where there's free wifi and can get the day organised.
I am seriously looking into investing in a mini iPad so I can take it with me where-ever. See lots of people using them in the street, taking photos etc but a normal. Opinions?

Here's a platform independent solution: before you leave create a pdf of the files then save that locally. It will avoid buying another device.
There are several free pdf editors out there that will let you combine individual files into one pdf and add notations.

I wouldn't get an iPad mini just for that. You can do the same stuff with a phone, but of course on a smaller screen.
I have a Nexus 7 (Android 7" tablet), which costs a fraction of what an iPad mini costs, but I don't use it on the street. I use my phone (Sony Xperia Z1 Compact) on the street. I carry the Nexus 7 and a bluetooth keyboard to use in the hotel for checking my email, making reservations, buying tickets, doing research, and the like.
I put all my travel-related files (reservations, notes, ticket confirmations) in a Dropbox folder. However, on the phone and tablet versions of Dropbox, only the folder and the file names get loaded automatically, to avoid swamping the memory of these smaller devices. If you want offline access to your files, you have to download them manually, by clicking on the file name. Then they'll be available offline.
If I'm in a place where I have reasonable data rates and no wifi access, I use my phone to tether the tablet. Fortunately, my Italian provider (TIM) has reasonably-priced data plans in Europe and the USA, which is where the bulk of my travel takes place.

Yes, I needed these tech bytes!!
Bought the mini a couple of years ago, and loved HDPro for sight notes. Did not need WiFi to see my trip notes. Brief, color-coded, & organized. Too bad so many people who bought that program are now left hanging.
Most of my files are .doc so there are other solutions. Thanks for sharing!
