Documentation Entering/Leaving Schengen Region
A stupid question, but at least I know it. When entering Schengen-region countries am I required to show docu/proof that I am leaving the country within a specific timeframe? Going to UK, France, Sweden, Germany, Italy, Switzerland this summer.

In my experience, one is asked questions such as "how long will you be staying?", general questions that may get more specific if the immigration officer on arrival at the first destination feels there may be reason. Most of us have a return ticket which would usually be "proof" enough, should there be a question. At very least, it makes sense to have proof of ongoing travel or that return ticket.
If you're asking the question does it mean your plans aren't firm in that regard?

Only when asked, and at Schengen border it's not common. They just stamp your passport with dated Schengen entry stamp (with arrow pointing inwards). But if they have suspicions, or you have a lot of Schengen stamps in your passport, they may just ask about your travel plan. It's helpful then to have evidence of outward reservation out of Schengen area or flight home, such as printed-out flight schedule or eticket receipt. You are allowed 90-in-180 days in the whole of Schengen.

Britain is not in Schengen.
On arrival in Britain, non-Europeans who belong to categories with a higher propensity to overstay or break the conditions of entry will frequently be asked to demonstrate they will conform to entry conditions - which includes leaving within the period for which permission to remain is being granted.
Those categories particularly include 18-30 year olds of virtually all non-European nationalities, and a slightly wider age range for some nationalities (like Australians) especially prone to overstay. They also include most people who need visas to enter Britain: even for travellers with a visa, it's still the job of border control staff to satisfy themselves the traveller will conform to entry conditions.
Typically, travellers arousing border officials' inquisitiveness will need to show evidence of reservations for onward travel outside the UK and Ireland within six months, and may need to show access to funds for supporting themselves without working.
Similar scrutiny is rare on entry to the Schengen group, and almost unheard of travelling between Schengen countries. But the growing migration crisis makes it impossible to forecast more than a few days in advance what border control formalities may be within Schengen.

Sometimes they can split hairs.
I had to take care of Turks who came to Belgium with a vis saying they would spend most of their time in Switzerland, whilst they were planning in staying in Belgium. The guys were sent to police station and then back home.
