Do you know a good airfare consolidator?

I am looking for the most inexpensive airfare possible for 2 adults from Los Angeles to Florence roundtrip for April 12-23. What do you think is a reasonable fare for this time? (Easter weekend)I have never used a consolidator before. What is the usual process? Is it better to pay by credit card or cashier's check? Is it usual to have to give your passport number? Thank you, Fodorites!

I used a consolidator last year for a flight to China and found the price to be by far the best I could find. I did have to pay by personal check, but didn't have any problems. Everything was handled by phone or mail and it worked out fine.

Carin-- cheaper airfares usually require flexibility and sometimes, well in advance purchasing. I checked qixo.com and they show flights.com as the cheapest consolidator for this day with a fare of $1864.80 total for 2 adults, including all taxes, etc., on Air France, connection at CDG- Paris. I am sure the fact that it is also the Easter vacation week is not helping. Best of luck!

Check the Sunday LA Times travel section--there are usually ads from consolidators that you can call or e-mail. We have gotten our best fares from [email protected] in Houston, but there are others listed. Some ask for cash or check, but I've been advised on this forum not to do that as you have no protection. Joey takes CC.

You can check with www.expedia.com --- an easy to use website that pulls up best fares from several carriers.

Additionally, you may consider broadening your options --- check Pisa (PSA) --- it's an easy train to get into Florence and Pisa is a small, very manageable airport.

However, more than likely your best prices would be flying into a larger airport (Rome) and then taking the EuroStar up to Florence (about 1 hr 40 train ride).
