Do internet cafes still exist in Paris and Rome?
Sorry if this has been asked before. On my search, it seems that most of the information here (and on Google) is old.
Anyway, we will be in the 6th in Paris and near the Campo di Fiore in Rome in April/May. Will we be able to find an internet cafe or have these all been replaced by WiFi?
We're staying in apartments, but don't have laptops to bring along.

There are small shops mixed in with video rentals or copying... and some large chains with multiple locations...
Milk and Cybercube are the two chains..

Hi Shelly,
When I was in Paris in May 2006 I stopped at an internet cafe in the 5th, the location escapes me now sorry. But I think you should be able to find one around there as the area has a large student population.
I paid something like 3euro for 30mins, we had free internet in our hotel, but we happened to pass by this place and we needed to send an email so it worked out.
Good luck!

In Rome there are two internet, phone shops on Via Urbana. The one is much cheaper than the other and they are about 4 buildings apart.
Also, you do have to give them your passport to use the internet. It's an Italian Law.

I went to several in Rome when I was there in July - yes, be sure to bring your passport... you need it. One was a dial up in the Spanish steps area - it was SLOW and VERY hidden to get to.
I cannot recall the other area as we had been out walking for a while - but it was large, on a corner, very fast.

There is an internet cafe close to Campo dei Fiori, at the corner of Corso Vittorio Emanuele II Corso del Rinascimento, across from the church San Andrea della Valle.
Put these coordinates into maps.google.com
41.896500, 12.474110

I think it's a cybercube, but there is a huge one right behind the MacDonald's which is on St. Germaine just a few steps east of Blvd. St. Michel. You buy time pretty cheap and sign in and out at will until you've used up your total time. It used to be incredibly hot in there, but this summer they added AC.

Back in the days when the French lagged woefully behind the rest of the world in PCs at home and Internet connectivity, there were zillions of Internet cafés in Paris. Now they seem to be concentrated in the Latin Quarter, where many poor students still don't have their own Internet access. The rest of France is catching up, although it's still behind. The Internet cafés are gradually dwindling in number in consequence.
An increasingly attractive alternative is Wi-Fi, which is being provided at more and more places in France, so if you have a laptop with wireless capability, you don't need an Internet café.
Some hotels provide some sort of Internet access, but it's often a dusty 10-year-old PC in a corner with a dial-up modem rather than anything respectable.

Here is a link to an article about Italy's new internet anti-terrorist measures pertaining to cyber cafes.
