Distance from Fiumicino Airport Terminal B to Shuttle Bus
Hi! Does anyone know about how long it will take me to reach the Fiumicino airport shuttle train from terminal B? I have to go through customs but do not have to pick-up baggage. My flight comes in at 19.40 and I must take the train at 20.07. Thank you.

PS Thanks for the advice, Paulo.

Paulo, prepare to move quickly - the train is enclosed within the airport, but it's a LONG walk. The trains leave fairly often, are you sure you have to catch that precise one? Plus, you have to figure that, even if your plane is precisely on time, you won't be right at the gate at that minute, and you'd have to be the first person off the plane, and the first person through customs, and still run...I hate to be a wet blanket, but I'm doubtful that you can make it.
Sorry!

I'd say after you clear Customs it's ~250M from the "B" arrival hall to the train station. Now Arrivals is on the ground floor, Departures in on the 1st floor and the 2nd (top) floor (3rd US is where the elevated walkways are to cross over to the train station and parking garages.
Frank if you make the 2007 train it will be a miracle. Good-Luck!!! Regards, Walter

Dear Janice and Walter,

Thanks for your responses...unfortunately, I cannot take any later train. I guess I will just have to wear running shoes and run full speed to the shuttle praying that I will make it! Does it take long to buy the ticket? I hope not!

I apologize for being one more wet blanket. The distance to the train and the length of time to buy a ticket are the least of what I'd be concerned about.

Departure delays, enroute delays, slow jetway, being parked on the ramp and waiting for a bus, slow and understaffed immigration point ... just some of the things for concern. I guess the odds of making that train at under 20%.

Were it my trip, I would certainly make alternate plans.

Ed

I don't know what your accomodation deal in Perugia is, Frank. Honestly, I think you would be able to make it only if the flight comes in earlier than schedulled. The 20% Ed is giving you IMO is quite generous. If you're not able to make it, a taxi to Termini wouldn't do either ... so that's ruled out. You indeed may take a taxi to Orte (108km) but that is quite expensive and you'd only make it if you're able to leave Fiumicino not later than about 8:45pm (if the flight's late, not even that is assured) and only if there's normal traffic on the Autostrada.

Unless, knowing yourself, you think that you'd manage to drive a rental car (200km to Perugia, about 2 1/2 hours) I strongly suggest you play it safe and book for a night at Hotel Mach Due (very close to the airport - about $100 a double). Cancel the first night in Perugia and costwise you should be more or less even. The next day, you could catch the 8:12am (or the 8:27am) local train at the Airport and switch trains at Rome's Tiburtina station. You'd arrive in Perugia at 11:41am. If you feel like sleeping a bit more, you may take the express to Termini at 9:07am and arrive in Perugia at 12:42pm (with a change in Foligno). If you need to be in Perugia early, you may catch 6:27am train at the airport, change at Tiburtina and Foligno and arrive in Perugia at 9:03am ...

Paulo
